				Shut Up and Drive

That's about what the mechanic said to me this morning - in much kinder language, of course. I could have sworn I was feeling a "hitch in my giddyup" - a slight obstruction in shifting into third gear, regularly enough to concern me. And it's not just me. I've had a couple of "car guys" drive it, including a serious tech guy, and he felt the little knock, too. So I had my mechanic drive it this morning, and man, he did stuff with that transmission I wouldn't dream of doing, really testing it out up & down through the gears. The clutch is stiff, but other than that, nothing wrong. Apparently what I'm feeling is a little "snick" as the stick enters gear correctly. Nothing to be concerned about. Since I plan to take this car out for some HPDE sessions (total novice), I wanted to be sure everything was A-OK, as I'm sure any little problems would only be magnified after some track driving. There are worse ways to spend a morning, I tell you, than being driven around town in my own car. First time in the passenger seat for me. So that's it. No more worrying about breaking something, no more babying. It's time to SHUT UP AND DRIVE

One thing I've read is that it helps on G50's to pause for an instant between gears for some reason (something to do with synchros I imagine). I've tried this on my '88 a few times and it does seem to help...however I get tired of it and just go back to normal shifting which works fine once it's warmed up. I have a good friend with a handful of 911s, two of which are dedicated track cars (one a RSR clone) and riding with him is an eye opener as far as what these cars can do. Have fun and I think 911's fare much better than most cars when being pushed a bit, in fact they may work better when they are.
