PCA DE Seatbelt 5 pt?
Having problems getting an answer to this question from PCA, I am putting in a 5pt belt but need to know can my shoulder belts go back in a V shape to one attachment point in the firewall or do I need two attachment points for the shoulder belts?

I don't know what PCA requires but I would use two mounting points and the firewall isn't strong enough to anchor belts unless you reinforce it considerably. I'd figure a load of at leat 1,500-2,000 lbs. at each anchor point. You also want to cross the belts. Schroth has some good installation recommendations on their web site.

What other equipment do you have in the car? Roll cage? Seats?
Follow belt manufacturer directions, or racing rules if you plan on racing. Good info here: http://www.schrothracing.com/main/Documents |

Some regions are different, but if they say 5 point specifically, then it has to attach at 5 points. Two sepereate shoulder, two hips, and one anti sub.

Well, PCA just got back to me and you cannot use a Y style shoulder with one attachment point, Looks like the stock seat and belts are going back in then.

Craig,
I have a Sabelt 5/6point H-harness that you can use if you'd like. It's a cam-lock system that has two sub-belts of your choice- 5point or 6point. All you'd need is a harness bar (heck, you should make one!) or some eyebolts in the rear seat belt locations to hook these harnesses up. I had two of these harness systems for both driver and passenger. I sent one to Crow for "rewebbing" since the belts' certification dating were expired. I probably should have saved myself the $100 to re-web since nobody ever checks my harnesses, not to mention the requirement of re-webbing is a load of horseshiat to begin with!!! Let me know if you want it.

Kevin, I will take you up on that offer, I would like the belt with the single sub mount. I will fab up a bar, then go over the bar and attach to the rear seat belt mounts?
If you can send it that would be great, I will be in Chicago this weekend but not for car stuff ![]()

Remember PCA states if you have 5pt and race seat on the drivers you must have the same setup for the passenger. But you can run a stock 71 911 with 37 year old shoulder belts

Also, in my region at least, 5 and 6 points belts in DE cars must be replaced every 5 years from date of mfg, ala UV degredation. Don't buy used or old belts.

In the Chicago region, you do not need a harness on the passenger side if solo; if you wish to have an instructor, however, you must have the safety harness setup for each seat, no exceptions (unless you wish to move down to the novice/green group).

Racing organizations don't like the Y belts because if the seat is torn off of its mounts towards the back of the car the Y in the belts will break your neck.

Pca
Guys,
The PCA rule changed this year and if running 5/6 point belts, you MUST have harness slots in seats. This prevents belts from separating and slipping off the outsides of your shoulders during impact. Also; There is a very good article on "The Science of Seat Belts" in the current (September) issue of Excellence Magazine. I will quote from this article: A properly-designed rollbar system will position the crossbar just below the drivers shoulders to ensure the proper shoulder-harness angle from the driver to the anchor points. As a basic rule of thumb, the shoulder harness should travel at no more than a ten-degree angle downward and no more than a 30-degree angle upward angle from the crossbar to the driver's shoulders.

This rule is loosely enforced in my experience. When I ran my first event in 2004, the instructor (who was/is a Board member) had for me as a passenger in his car a crappy stock seat with stock belts. Meanwhile he's sitting in a nice new Sparco Evo with 6 pt. belts. Not easy to enforce the rules when the region Admin. are not following them themselves......... Craig, Harness is dropped off at FedEx Kinko's this morning. You should see it Monday.
