No Start after Two Hour Trip / Starts in Morning

I drove my son and I in our 1984 Targa from the cottage to metro Detroit last night. It's about a two hour drive. Car ran great. No idiot light for the alternator. Parked in the driveway and came back out after about ten minutes to pull it into the garage. NOPE.

All accessories worked. Could hear fuel pump when key was turned to 'start.' Engine did not crank.

Hmmmm...

Tried to start it this morning and ZOOM! No problem.

So, whaddya think? Frozen solenoid?

A hot engine/starter is MUCH harder to turn, so that's when you will notice problems. Just make sure all your connections, especially on the ground side, are tight and clean. Otherwise, if you're on your original starter, it might just be time for a fresh one.

BTW, the Targa has just south of 30K miles.

Any recommendations for replacement starters?

+1.

I tried all the other things and nothing fixed the problem until I bought a rebuilt BOSCH starter. It was the 100% cure for my 911. The good news is all the other things were freshened.
