Best way to ship wheels to France?

Hey guys. I have as set of fuchs 16x6's and 16x7's that a fellow Pelican would like to purchase. I called UPS and was blown out of the water on how expensive. The 6's are 17 lbs. a peice and the 7's are 18 lbs. a peice. I was going to dismount tires and ship individually. I am guessing with packing material that they are close to 74 lbs total to ship. Anyone have experience shipping wheels from USA to France? I would like to keep cost down as much as possible for potential buyer.

Thanks,

Eric

Well, Greyhound is out.

Try FedEx, they are often less than UPS for larger boxes.

Don't do USPS, they'll never arrive.

Did you try DHL? Sometimes they are cheaper than UPS also.

I recently shipped a set a turbo brakes to France and used USPS without problems. I did pay a couple bucks extra to get insurance. The usps website quotes around $75 for each box at 17#.

Probably USPS has a service called EMS they give a tracking number and is less expensive that courier services like UPS, DHL etc.

I send mufflers to Europe several times a month via USPS. Got one going to the UK today. They are by far the least expensive carrier, no problems so far.
It is your responsibility to package the item extremely well. Size limits exist so read that paragraph carefully. Watch your insurance and value claims (VAT). You may wish to claim the wheels as racing parts so as not to add TUV complications.

I recently purchased two 15x7 fuchs from ebay. They were shipped from the USA using USPS. Shipping was $112,50 and they showed up a week later

Try packaging them in as few boxes as possible. I just sent five 6" and 5.5" Fuchs to CA from ATL for $80, the original quote for five identical boxes was $120. The difference is that I used two boxes rather than five.

Here's an idea for your French buyer...

I use a mail forwarding service based in Brideport, CT, for getting all my stuff posted from the US to Australia:

http://www.bongous.com/

They're terrific!

Basically, I subscribe to their service for $15/month, and they give me my own US postal address. I get sellers to send the goods to my address in Bridgeport - once I have a bunch of stuff accumulated at the warehouse, I instruct Bongo to post it all down to me. They consolidate all the packages in to one shipment, and post out via DHL, I receive the stuff down here within 3 days!

I plugged your Fuchs wheels in to the Bongo calculator, the postal cost comes to $260 for all 4 wheels shipped to France:

http://www.bongous.com/consolidation_calculator.php

Of course you would have to add the postal cost from Ohio to Connecticut.

I've used the service to have all sorts of stuff posted down - a dash pad, Fuchs, and various other small bits, although at the moment I've got 2 x 911 doors sitting in the warehouse!

Good luck...
