Converting a targa to convertible?
ive seen a few for sale lately that said targa converted to convertible.
Is there a write up some where about what is involved with this conversion? I know of a project 911 targa that is not running and id love to learn by working on one... thanks in advance. |

There is a factory manual to do it. Do a search in this forum on it.

I did it and it is not too bad. The write up contained above is for the earlier cars. Somewhere around 1985 they changed the top to roller latches and also to a different hinge support to allow for a power top. Make sure your doner top is the correct style and you get all the brackets cut out from the doner car. If roller style top, then also make sure you get the correct windshield frame brackets because they are different from the Targa. If a power top, make sure you also get the transmissions, motor, brain and all harnesses.

Thanks for the info.
It will be an earlier car, i think its a 75 or 74 targa. How much did a complete top set ya back? Are they hard to find? My 75 911s Targa says Convertible on the title (not sure why) Does doing this conversion effect value of car? I see its pretty common conversion seeing alot of them around lately for sale that said converted from targa.. |

Yes they are hard to find, so I would start looking. I got mine from Okla. For. for around 2500 and they suppied all the brackets and trim, 3 months after the sale I called about parts not sent and they got them right out to me at no extra charge. It does effect the value alot depends on the quality of the conversion. Good luck
