Is the "cool collar" still available?

I was reading a pelican tech article "Improved cooling for your porsche-cheap" . In the article it describes the "cool collar" a fiined device the clamps aroung the oil filter to indrease oil cooling, the tests show significant drop in oil temps, but i can't find it at pelican parts, even within the article it has the pelican sit to buy one but it is not on the site???

Robert,

Since you have only a few posts and are relatively new, I'm going to save you from a "flame."

First, do a search and you'll discover that the cool collar has been mocked to death on this site. Save your money but keep your sense of humor for the replies to come.

Oh yeah, check out this thread:

I have one and "may" part with it for the right (dear I say?) price.
Do a search first as ossiblue suggests.
There are better things to spend your money on.
Like a cup holder

They had to quit selling them - cars were running too cool and not burning the condensation from the oil....

Here you go:

The theory is the collar is wrapped around the oil filter and the fins will conduct heat away from the filter as the hot oil passes through.
Sound theory but indistinguishable results.

As Wayne has pointed out (in some exasperation) it really DOES work....

But the results are quite small.

I would not spend $$ on it.

I would buy one (mine) just to try it and see if it works.
It looks very high tech once installed.
You will be the envy of your P car mates.
Every one will want one.
You could start a small business making them.
You could be rich(er).

Being the glutton that I am, I called pelican today, I will leave the salesmans name out, (he was ver helpfull) As a fair amont of you are aware they stopped selling them about a year ago, although he said the did reduce oil temps on average ablout 10 degrees, the price he was a little unsure but thought it was about $35. Too many complaints, people wanted more like 20-30 degrees, heck 10 would be okay with me.

Robert, the cool collar is a waste of your time, but if you really want one JC Whitney has carried them for years.

The car in last months Excellence where the author put aftermarket injection on a previously carb'd car has one. Anyone notice it in the pic?

If it's really reduce 10 degree, it worth it. How about adding a computer fan there, another 10 degree?

Mine works great after 2am. I installed the cool collar and have a fan on a hampster wheel next to it. Whiskers can really spin that thing. I see a 12 degree cooler running engine

Yiup... ruined the whole thing for me... It was like watching a great pair of legs connected to a great pair of ^^ appear down the stairwell and then, seeing the face and realizing it is your sister...

Gotta make one out of finned copper much better as a conductor, in conjunction with the factory cooling to disperse the heat collected in the finns, I think i'll give wayne a jingle, probably see upwards of 12 degrees or maybe more. Come to think of it why not patent finned oil filters made of copper?, with a nut on the end for install and removal, wouldn't want to bend any finns. In theory Wayne is correct it "should work" but on the other hand so should my synchro's.

Years ago, Wayne dared me to buy one and see for myself... a money back guarantee. Well, it does work. Maybe, on a good day, my oil temps drop 1 degree. Yeah, it is completely immeasurable!

Unfortunately, it "radiates" heat back into the engine compartment... right next to my air intake. In all honesty, I'd rather have the heat removed and deposited elsewhere (like in the front right fender).

At least I apparently own a piece of history. Has the price gone up on these now rare items?
