Relocate 3.2 ECU, how?

I have an 85 Carrera 3.2 and I need more room to fit me with my helmet. I need to lower my seat or add a race seat.

Is it possible to relocated the relay, ecu and other components that are under the driver seat to the back seat area?

Or, will this require a bunch of rewiring. I do not want to hack up my car to much.

Thx.

I had mine out and I saw enough harness to move it. I was holding the thing up in the air a couple feet to unplug the harness. Depending on where you want it in the back seat area, I think you're OK.

I would think you can move it back and maybe mount it vertically behind the seat.

Yes, on the floor behind the seat or the lower vertical area on the back seat would be great.

So there is enough slack in the wires that go forward to pull it back a 12 - 18"???

Thx.

911st

Post some pics of this if you could. I was looking at moving them to the rear quarter panel, only to make access to Chip and DME a little easier. We get a lot of rain here in FL, so I am not a huge fan of it on the floor...if given a choice.

Send a message via Yahoo to cgarr
Get a wireless ECU then you can mount it anywhere.

On the 964 & 993 Cup cars there were 3 places that were used

1) horizontally on the floor at the rear of the seat instead of the front

2) horizontally on the seat pan behind the rear of the seat

3) vertically on the wall behind the seat

you just need a flat aluminum plate and 4 vibration mounts. I like the higher mounts because they tend to stay drier(most of the time)

Bill,

Very nice. I like the vertical and rear floor mount but probably would not go for the seat pan.

I am still concerned that there may be a group of wires going forward from the ECU to the front area for guages and powerthat would restrict moving the ECU. Can anyone confirm this is not a problem?

My car is at body shop, so I cannot confirm right now...but I will follow up as I will relocate.

Picture here is as close as I can get right now.

Joe,

Great pic!

Looks like it may be able to be rotated 90 deg toward the back.

An idea could be to put the altitude can and relay under a shelf w the ECU above it.
