starting [problem

I was driving home the other night and the car just died on me.
as if it had run out of fuel. no weird noises or lights or anything out of the ordinary.
just a loss of power.
I have a spare working relay I plugged in under the seat.
no change.
I tried a fuel pump from napa, and it wouldn't start. the pump made some noise for a while and then stopped
I got a new coil. put it in with the napa pump still in place. nothing happened.
I took out the napa pump, and put the original pump back in.
the car started right up, settled into a solid idle and revved great.
about 3 minutes later the idle got rough and the car died again.
tried to restart it and got nothing the first time.
waited a couple minutes and it started but ran very rough and then died again.
I let it sit while I was working and went to try again.
turned the key and the coil didn't make a sound at all1
the engine turns over, builds oil pressure but just won't start.
is something killing the coil on me?

I've been doing tons of searches and can't seem to find anything where the car died and then started again with a new coil and then died again.
any ideas?

For the car to run you need
  1. Fuel
  2. Compression
  3. Ignition

Do you have those?

#3 is the easiest to check for.

I assumed a 3.2 was a DME car

i was unclear about his setup, thats why i asked. on my car, that would be the first thing i checked if i was having those symptoms after replacing coil, but im only familiar with the 3.0

when i first installed the coil it made the noise it was supposed to when I turn the key on bfore starting it up.
started right up
now there is no noise from the coil
I went and pulled all the fuses and looked them over, none are broken or in abnormal condition.
nothing smells burnt or melted.
