				Porscheless no more

Sold my 87 Targa a few weeks ago and started the search for a turbo. After a lot of flip flopping between 930's, 964's, and 996's I finally landed on the 964.

Found this one with only 42,000 miles, bone stock and it great shape. A PPI later and the garage is Porscheless NO MORE. Thanks to all who helped me make the decision on what to buy. Heres a couple required pictures. ![]() ![]()

Wow. That thing is so stock, it's painful. Time for speedline turbo 3.6 reps with MPSCs, H&R coilovers, intake/exhaust/fuel enrichment, window tint, RUF front lip. Okay okay, I'll shutup now.

Please explain the the way it drives. Compare it to your previous car, I just wonder what it's like compared to my car, 79 SC.

I would love to take a ride in one of those. Also, can we ask what you had to pay?

This car is worlds apart from the Targa. 100 HP difference is probably the biggest difference, when the boost comes on at 3000 RPM's you'd better hang on to your hat cause it's crazy quick. 60-80-100-110-120 happens in no time. The 87 was quick but this thing launches you back in your seat. People I give rides to can't believe how it throws you back.

Also handles much differently than the 87, turns I wouldn't take at 60 in the 87 I take at 80 in this and I'm sure the car can do more. 100 mph feels like 60. The car is crazy comfortable at speed. I actually called Valentine and ordered their radar detector on the way home from picking it up in Minnesota because it's hard to keep at the speed limit. I'm addicted to the boost, it's like a drug I just need more of every time I drive, also love the turbo wide look in black, very agressive. I've never driven an SC so I can't compare it to that. I really liked my Targa a lot, but I'm in love with this thing. Brian

While shopping for turbo's I found them priced between $35,000 and $60,000 for 1991-92's and $60,000-$70,000 for the 1994's. I even looked at the 996TT since they can be had in this same price range but it came down to what I was the most passionate for and the classic 911 body style is what I grew up wanting so I went with the 964. I had looked at the 930's but the wife wanted an A/C that actually worked so that was one of the factors in the decision.

I could have bought this same car with 70,000 miles on it for $35,000 but in the end I paid $42,000 for a car with 42,000 miles. Two owner, doctor in Fresno CA bought it new, his widow sold it to a family friend (retired teacher) in MN 4 years ago who sold it to me. No modifications, no stories, no racing, just a near mint example of a completely stock 91 turbo owned by two older gentlemen. I think I got a pretty good deal from what I came across out there. At least I'm happy about it.

Nice car Brian! You made a great choice, the 964 offers all the benefits of the cherished 89 930 plus you get better AC and coil-overs to start with. It's easy to swap springs out and lower her. I agree about the wheels, some nice 18" 3-piece deep dish with 315's and 275's will really finish the look...
