OK - That was Scary! Sticky Go Peddle

I took our Son and a buddy of his out for a run inm the Targa - going from 1 to 2, the go peddle sticks and the engine just revved like frat ho on ice. I pulled over with the clutch engaged and turned off the engine.

Started it back up and same thing. The funny - strange thing is that if I push the bottom of the peddle it is fine but the middle or top and it sticks. Prolly a simepl fix and a simple reason but scray as hell nonetheless!

Hopes the clutch is ok - smelled like my Wife just drove it!

Make sure your throttle cable and clutch cable are not rubbing together under the car. I have seen more than one post here where someone worked on the clutch or put an engine back in and the trottle binds.

+1 That happened to me. It's very easy to happen.

Awhile ago my daughter was trying to start the car--cold, carbs with no choke--and I told her to pump the gas pedal more. She took me too literally and apparently pumped the pedal really hard, and when it did start, it ran to 2,000 or so and hung there. When I took up the floorboard, I found that it's pretty easy to bend the metal to which the throttle pedal pushrod is attached--you'll see what I mean if you do the minor disasssembly--and I simply bent it back a quarter-inch.

same thing happened to me about a month ago. in my case, i believe it was the cruise control throttle cable in the engine compartment...broken plastic bit where the cable is anchored to the top of the engine. some JB weld fixed. common problem. there may also be problems with the clutch and throttle cable getting hung up on each other in the tunnel and also problems at the throttle parts mounted on the tranny. bushings etc.... scared the crap out of me

The bushing hanging outside the transmission which links the throttle is known to bind and age. Take a loot at it. Of course it depends what year your car is.

Cruise control cable has a plastic piece that can crack and become lodged - my car did that coming into the hairpin at sebring right after my engine was rebuilt - scared the crap out of me. I think I still have the crease in the seat.

Search for peddle came up empty.
What's a peddle?
Is it part of the cruise control?

I'm not sure what car or fuel system you have, but I've got CIS and there are a few potential sources for this. Yes, the cruise cable can hang up the throttle right at the throttle body linkage. The throttle linkage moves, but the cruise cable does not, so the linkage slides along the CC cable. The thingie at the end of the cable then can get caught up in a part of the linkage other than its regular 'home.'

Yeah, clutch cable.

But one thing not mentioned is that the throttle rod linkage at the hinge thingie on the transmission can go 'over the top. That is, the linkage part that rotates around the boss on sticking out of the transmission can rotate so far that the rod, upon return, is still trying to rotate the linkage thingie clockwise. If this is happening, then you need to lengthen the rod that comes to that thingie from the tunnel, and shorten the rod that goes from the thingie rearward toward the engine.

That's because it should be spelled "pedal." Pedal is what you step on. Peddle means to try and sell something, like somebody who sells used books on the street.

I had about every problem you could imagine with my throttle sticking. First it was the clutch and accelerator cable wrapped around each other and the throttle would peg when I put the clutch in. Second problem was the gas pedal linkage sticking on the tunnel where they meet - scared the crap out of me on multiple occasions!

crazy reving problem

i suspect i also have a cable and bushing issue in the tunnel that i hope to sort out this winter. but, there is no doubt that my cruise control cable was broken. yours may be as well
