Tires or Shocks??

Hi , im slowly getting car right, anyway as am novice ill post the question here and try to find an answer,
the Car is too low at the back, OR too high at the front i think its the latter
is it the tyres can they make that much of a difference? i got the car like ths and the perv owner did put two new rear tyres on it to pass rodaworthy..

The suspension feels very firm and i havent noticed any body roll and car is tracking straight

but the front sticks up a bit,

i have attached pic of car

ANY IDEAS??? i dont know whether to take it to a suspension mob or a tyre shop

I can believe that you are from across the pond?

Welcome.

The ride height looks fine to me. The 911 front fender is shaped in such a way that it is actually "higher". The nose down slope of your rockers look right on.

You can always raise the rear a little bit for more clearance or looks.

Lowering the front is much easier to do but know that once you start messin' with the height you most likely will need an alignment.

Do a search here under ride height or lowering and you can read all about how you can adjust the suspension yourself.

It could be tires, that looks to be an '84 -89 Carrera
OEM tire fitment was 205/55 and 225/50 x16 tires on 6 & 7(later 8) x16 wheels, but can have wheels/tires that are bigger than that at either end

take it to a Porasche specialist alignment/corner balance shop that can set the ride height for you, yes, the front can be dropped, but in all likelyhood both ends will need to be set to do it right

Nice car by the way!

Thanks guys, yes its a 85 car i have been reading posts regarding shocks etc and guess im looking for cheap/easy alternative to taking it into shop,

Can tyres at front expand over time when not in use?

as when i checked the car out the back tyres were replaced b4 pickup,
The fronts still had all their tread but they were quite cracked from not being used for a long time.
I wonder if its possible for very old tires to Expand?? when they get old? ie: the Rubber stretches and then takes more air to inflate them to recommended tyre pressure, so the result would be ballooning of tyres?? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
can this happen?

just an idea

the expanding tires theory is not one that I am familiar with BUT if they are cracked from sitting or just generally old, replace them ASAP. They could blow at any time.

With this new info I would recommend geting new tires all around and then seeing if it feels right for you.

If your tires are cracked, they need to be replaced, right off.

What about Porsche ownership did you expect to be cheap?

the tires no not expand over time(the thermal expansion is negligable), the rubber will wear but full tread depth is ~9/32, x2 if you run them bald, the tires will be ~18/32 shorter

you have a nice car, treat it w/ respect and it will last a long time, these cars should have a small forward rake which is lacking on yours, I see a rearward rake(aka motorboat). Take it ito a specialist and have it set right, if you aren't a member of PCA AUS perhaps contact them for some recommendations as to where to go.

okkkk will do thanks guys, but the mechanic shouldnt have passed the car for safety Roadworthy as its obviously a safety issue (i didnt know about hazards of cracked tyres)

just thought it added some character to the car, you know the nice antique look lol

Heck i owned onr 10yrs ago, was cheapest car i ever owned to maintain, just topped up the oil and kept regular service, nothing ever went wrong, but this one is starting to upset me ive already forked out $4 for a brake light bulb and a set of stone guards

but what you sat about the boat i relate to that, its easier to see in life than a pic and you picked it up i think there

Thanks for the advice and tips All of you
Regards Robbbyg
