Unhappy Clown College 3.2

Hello Porsche Folks

I dropped my transplanted 3.2 this week end. I had a thread several weeks ago.
The title was locked up 3.2 transplant help. It turned out that the outer ring gear
was mounted wrong. The indentation on the ring gear was not located correctly
over the pressure plate. When I fist mated the engine to the trans, I detected
no problem. But, it kept throwing the clutch cable, so I rebuilt the peddle cluster.
This is when I probably warped the ring gear and allowed it to bound up against
the bell housing.
When draining the oil for the engine drop, I tried to save the oil so I could use it
in some thing else. I dropped the plug in the funnel and hence 7 out 8 quarts landed
on the garage floor. I have four Cocker Spaniels, two black and two blond. I now
have four black ones. When I dropped the engine I use a four wheel hand cart
and lifted the body off the engine. The cart slipped and the rolled off shearing the
throttle mechanism on the trans. Luckly I was able to to get the bolt out with a
easy out. Five hundred plus dollars later I have the new parts on there way.
I hope to post some pictures soon. Regards p930man

It is too bad you don't have all of that on video.

Sorry to hear about all of those problems. It looks like when the $h!t started, it was just down hill from there on. Good luck with it!! Tony.

A visual thought about all of that is sort of funny, but... still very serious. Glad you had the cool head about sharing this. Hope you get it back together without mishap. Good luck!! Tony.

wow I have had issues but always been lucky. Any chance you could get a helper with a strong back when you go to put it back in? Might help keep the Clowns at bay.

if it makes you feel better, when i was disassembling my 73 i had a clown moment. the car was on jack stands and i was removing the front suspension. slowly the car started to pop a wheelie on the rear jack stands under the torsion tube. i quickly grabbed the front and held it down while i tried to figure out what i can grab to weigh down the front until i get the engine out. fortunatly i could get to the front wheels and i reached over and rolled each over and put them in the trunk. i then looked around to see if anyone saw it happen.

I think we should start a Clown Club. I definitely qualify as a member, in fact I may change my sig. This post makes me laugh so much...not at you with you, I keep remembering more and more "clown" moments....:-)

LMAO on both of these. Sorry, guys, but that's some funny stuff. I've had a couple of those why-isn't-there-someone-here-to-help-me moments myself.

Thanks everybody for your witty comments. Believe me there were more Clown moments that
I did not put in the tread! I'm sure when I get it back in the car there will be more monkeys in the wood pile. I think I will invest in one of those ATV jacks. Again, I hope to post some pictures
soon. The dogs have rolled around in the dirt enough, where they are back to being a dirty brown. Regards p930man

When a buddy and I were doing the top end on my SC motor, I was using that special crow's foot tool to remove that big nut around the cams (IIRC). It required a lot of torque so I was using my 2 foot breaker bar and it slipped off. My hand punched the engine and then with the remaining momentum I manged to punch myself in my man-jewels. Not sure which hurt worse -- no, that's not true. The shot to my junk hurt worse.

Trying to tap the pilot bearing in with a small hammer holding a piece of wood to soften the blow, forgot about the thumb. Anyway, it was hitting really close to my thumb and I was thinking "Boy, that hammer's really close to my thu...WHAM!!" Insert LOUD string of profanity here...it scared my dog.

My Waterloo is Channel Lock Pliers -- when you're pulling or tugging on something that has an inherently unstable shape because otherwise you wouldn't be using the darn pliers to begin with. The jaws then slip off and you get that nice snap as a portion of your palm becomes home for yet another blood blister.

now I'm really LMAO!

Everyone who works on cars has stories like these. One of my better clown moments was using a very large, torquey Bosch drill with a 35mm hole saw to make a hole for an AC hose in the very top corner of the engine compartment from the wheel well on an SC. The car was on a lift at about chest height. My left hand was in the wheel well holding the drill while my right hand was on the drill handle which was just outside the wheel arch. As I was going at a slight angle, the hole saw jammed and the drill's torque spun my clenched right hand directly into my jaw. I nearly went down. After leaning on the side of the car and watching the stars for about 30 secs, I checked to see if anyone was watching...

This was about 15 years ago, but to this day I have to chuckle when I think about the reaction in the shop if I would have KO'd myself

There was a loose heat shield on my wife's car a few years ago...so after 40 years I *finally* treated myself to an angle grinder. Being the cheap b@stard that I am I bought a $30 heavyweight unit. I bought a set of grinding discs and set to work, lying on my back on the carport floor.

Of course I had to hold the loose heat shield with my left hand hand, while I wielded my new 10 pound grinder in my right, lying on one shoulder like kind of at an awkward angle.

I'd say about ten seconds into this operation, maybe five seconds, I totally slice open the thumb on my left hand, lengthwise. Luckily the grinding disc was hot enough to kind of cauterize the wound so the blood was minimal but geezuz did that hurt.

At the shop I worked at, the owner took great joy in telling me about some "clown" moments that had occurred during the past 30 year. The best one was about the time his partner had completed an engine rebuild, installed the engine, connected everything back up and filled it with oil. He started the engine and, from the driver's seat, he could not see the fountain of oil that was sprouting up each time he reved the engine - he had forgotten to install the oil filter.

One of my employees was pulling a transmission out of a Honda accord a couple of years ago. This car was an automatic, . This employee was a little green, and although he was big and strong , he was a bit of a lummox. He had seen my pull front wheel drive standard transmissions many times without a tranny jack, I would just carefully lower them out. So he is going to try to do this with a 250 pound auto tranny. I warned him that it was way heavier than he thought. He gave me a cocky reply , and told me I am *^*&^* this horse, you look out for the farmer. So I let him go. He had his little tool cart under him just incase. Wham he dropped the trans, and completely folded his little cart in half. Everybody in the shop saw it, and laughed their arse off cause he was such a smart ass about everything. He did not last long in our shop.
