Still fun to flash your high-beams at a brother Porsche here in South Florida. I have seen several cars flash their lights in recognition and when they do, only one of their headlights and their sames side turn-signal/running light flash. How is this done?
thanks, Tom ![]() ![]()

I still like that practice and do it as often as i can. I first heard about it when I got into sports cars as a kid. seems that few people do it now. and since l live in northen california where there are many porsches, you would wonder why people don't do it anymore.

Can't do it. I have headlight covers on the 911. But then today some guy in a Camaro convertible with the top down gave me a big wave because I was in my wife's Boxster with the top down. That in a way means more to me that insular Porsche people giving each other their secret handshake.

I'm guessing it's done by letting some of your bulbs burn out?

Hey Tom - I just got through with swapping out the headlight switch assembly on my '85 911. My copious research in the forums here indicated that a number of us deal with some really quirky outcomes when we do "flash to pass." Apparently many of our lamps like to cut off and blinkers come on because of faults in the fragile plastic pieces, corrosion, and worn contacts in that old switch assembly.
If you are seeing this "winking" often, then maybe there is a real trick out there. But, if you saw it on a mid-year model 911, it might just be a fluke. In any event, thanks for enlightening me to the practice of flashing my respect to other owners! And thanks HarryD for the savetheflash link. That's the second time you've helped me out!! The first was in your description of how to loosen the nut bezel on my headlight switch to get my fat fingers in position to connect the leads on that headlight switch assembly installation. I would have failed that one without your assist. Rick

I does no go for me to "flash" being the headlights are down, but I can do it with my driving lights that I converted about 7yrs ago, to operate on their own circuit. Tony.

Older cars I will wave. Sometimes newer cars will wave and I feel like an arse because I didn't wave back in time.

Banned but not out, yet..

When driving my '73 and an early car flashes me, I usually just flip them off to watch their face fall.
Just kidding, my wife usually beats me to it.
