Blaupunkt Bremen Radio Repair?

Hi Folks

I have a Blaupunkt "Bremen" Radio/ Cassette deck that is original to my 83 SC Coupe. It has a broken volume control (VC unit) and cassette deck switch. I'd like to have it repaired - or swap it for a compatible 4 channel re build that fits without "customizing". I've tried a local shop, Midwest Electronics, SW Stereo and Blaupunkt themselves with no success. Although, I think some of them may just not want to do it. Surely someone can repair/replace this unit without having to spend bags of $ and time?

Any ideas? Thanks!

I just sent my Blaupunkt "Reno" to Midwest and they fixed it. They were very happy to take it. Some people here said they don't like older stuff but the guy I talked to said until they see it they can't promise anything since they don't know if they have the parts or not.

I had some capacitor blow out and had no sound to the rear speakers. Funny thing when I pulled out the radio it had a Porsche sticker on it and said refurbished with a 1988 date on it, my car is an 87.

Total cost for repair with shipping was $142.-, shipping was $15 with $500 insurance

I wanted some locals to look at it and they were not too interested.....

I believe there is a guy in California who likes the older stuff,

Good luck!

You used the term repair / replace. Do you have some reason to want to continue to use the factory original radio? If you are doing serious concours then repair it and keep using it.

If you just want a radio it is easy to replace it with a modern unit. I ended up putting a nice unit that will play MP3 CDs or DVDs. It can even read dual layer DVDs so I can burn over 8 gigs of MP3s which is my entire collection of over 120 originals CDs. You can get a kit that has a harness that will connect to the factory harness so you don't even have to hack the wire harness. The radio is good and it looks OK in the dash. I really don't miss my old cassette unit.

You should keep your original radio in a box for the next owner. Modern radios are like modern computers. You don't really want use a computer from the 80s unless there is a very specific reason.

That is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

I ordered a radio from Crutchfield and it came with it. My 911 had a PO installed radio so those wires were hacked by the installer. I ordered the same radio for my 86 El Camino and it just plugged right in. You have to set up the wires on the radio side but not the car side of the connectors. As I remember the 911 harness was mostly some pins to insert into the factory connector.

Yes, I want to keep the original in working condition and then - possibly - update with a newer unit. It also helps to have to original for classic insurance purposes - where I live, anyway.
