Increase in sound, kind of like taking the cover off your old 4 barrel, sound awsome but little if any performance improvement, also water gets in (not good) when it rains out. Does sound kinda cool though, should have a spare complete one for rainy days.

I'm sure the mice will love it should you ever decide to put the car in storage.

FYI, I done it to mine. First I drilled it, later I hacked off the top, leaving the sides and clasps to hold the filter in. Nice sound at full throttle...

For what it's worth I didn't notice anything and went back to the stock cover. If you want sound change the muffler. If you can hear the intake the exhaust isn't loud enough......

To accomplish the same purpose, simply "section" the lid portion completely off. Don't bother with drilling holes. Same as the "Cup" lid.
Advantages then?--> you have perfect access to all 4 hold-down clamps on the lid, no issues, oil (filter) changes become a bit easier,..... top valve cover access is a bit easier.... and ( for me) you can see and adjust the top-side of the Koni-adjustable shocks with the removable hand-wheel....also easier.

Lets water get on the filter element when you wash the car if you're not careful.

Filter is placed well in "front" near the firewall...I don't se a big water entry issue. Like I said, same as "cup" lid for cup cars, and they race in the rain.
As to cone filters, what will that accomplish ( as to being "better" than a sectioned lid?). Plus...not all cone filters have the nipple you need to capture the oil fumes line that needs to be re-attached. Now you're open to the engine compartment making a mess or having to use a vent bottle...usually with its own drain valve and filter. Gets needlessly complicated.
