Shorten a 930 Tranny - What is involved?

As the title states; what is involved in shortening a 930 bell-housing?

I am looking to put a 930 4spd in my SC and need a short bell-housing such as the '76/7 stock 930 units. I would prefer to buy an early tranny but cannot cough up the $4000+ that folks want for them.

So what is involved and how much cost?

Hey RarlyL8,

Almost been down this road on another project.

Basically the tranny gets a complete disassembly, hey why not call it a build huh? Bell housing and mainshaft get machined/shortened.

I can't remember cost and turnaround. Think the best folks to talk to are JB Racing in Fla and Patrick Motorsports whom I know has done a lot of these.

Hope that helps some..

Is that all there is to it? Take an inch off of both the housing and the mainshaft?
Anything else?

I can do the strip and re-assembly myself and just happen to have access to a machine shop.

As far as I know that's it.

May be a mod to the trans bracket as well but I can remember.

I already knew you had the capability to do the build side of it, and I'm not surpised at your having access to the machine shop!
