New MSD installed : engine runs, gets warm, misfiring and died after 2 kilometers....

Hello everyone!

I need a little help with this story...!

I was running ok and smooth on 5th gear at the beginning of this summer. Then my engine made an enormous backfire and died on the road.

I had to tow the car back to my place and check out for troubles.

I found problem with original CD box (mine is 911t 1970 2.2.L). So I decided to go for a new MSD 6AL with blaster 2 coil, bosch distributor (replacing then my old marrelli) and Pertronix and new set of spark plugs with 1,4 gap.

I fixed everything mentionned here and the engine was then again working (slitly misfiring but working ok at idle)

Now if I go for a little drive (let's say 2-3 kilometers), while it gets warmer, the car considerably degenerates !

It goes for little spark time adjustment (which I fixed while rotating my distributor) from bad bad bad misfiring until the car shocks and died.

Now I don't know what to look for...?

Do I have carburator problem (then again my zenith were adjusted not long ago and working very well with CD box)? I've check my spark plugs and they all seem to be a little wet (mixture is maybe too rich, but it that enough to get to this situation...!?)

Anyway, if someone somewhere has so far a clue to this situation, please let me know!!!

Feel free to ask for more details!

Thanks

GQ

Is your distributor off by 180 degrees? Open it up when you're on top dead center and see if the rotor is pointing to #4 instead of #1.

Hope this helps!

I know it is new, but is the coil going bad? They can get weaker as they heat up. Is ther a rev limiter switch or chip that could be going bad or set wrong?

Just throwing some thoughts out there.

I had that happen when I ran 2 coils off of 1 MSD but when I drive with 2 boxes its fine. I would susspect that the msd box is no good. call them for technical

I had a similar problem when I mounted a standard Blaster 2 coil in the factory location on the fan. I fried a coil mounting it there. Some people use the epoxy filled version with success, but I just decided to relocate the coil off of the engine.

Thanks for all the advice!

I will check for that (coil and/or MSD trouble) in the morning!

I also have a rev limiter that was fixed to 6000 : I will check for bad connection by substitue it to a 7000 one.

If someone has any other advice, feel free to tell!

At least the car is running but I just can't think of going further than the stop sign on my street....

Thanks again,

GQ
