Carrera better than a Toyota?
Wow! Otto has a Carrera with 245,000 miles.
![]() ![]() 1985 911 Carrera Without calling him, do you guys think a Carrera can last this long? I had a Celica eons ago and at 235K, it was still running, but very tired. For the wagers, do you think Otto (if called) would say that it needs a rebuild? Out of curiosity, what the highest-mileage Carrera you have seen? |

Toyota Celica $8,200.00 (fully loaded). After 200,000 miles, the cost was 3 brake pads, 1 set of rotors, 1 starter, and 1 clutch. With 200K_+ miles, it sold at $2,300.00. This is equal to 72%. What is the price of a brand new Carrera? ![]() BTW, Otto's car has to be an SC as SC's are the only ones that go over 200K miles.... ![]() |

My Chevy small block 305 in my El Camino has 264,000 miles right now and the engine has not been touched internally. I have gone through several starters water pumps alternators and brakes and a transmission. One $14.00 set of brake pads guaranteed for life, replaced numerous times for free. The same for the other parts.
There are Carrera engines and SC engines that car go that far if they had regular oil changes and the valves adjusted correctly. Loose valve adjustment can cause the valve guides to wear prematurely. With 245,000 miles that engine will need a good evaluation to see if it is in decent shape. If it is not going to be a daily driver it may last for years.
