CIS air flow 2.7L air box to a 3.0L air box?

CIS air flow 2.7L air box to a 3.0L air box can you get more HP.

I need to get a new air box for my 2.7L mine has a been fix one to meany times. I'm hoping that a 3.0L air box will fit and give more air flow and maybe more HP. Has some one tried this will it work-fit? or would I need to port the heads to get the intakes to fit and put in cams?I'd like to just put on the air box and go but it will be nice if it runs right.

thanks for your help

motor # 911/84

Youre talking about the 78/79 SC but then think about it, the factory went back to the 77 size in 80 to 83. Youre talking about porting heads and buying SC cams, with the cams you need to get the cam carriers also.
Why not buy a 3.0, then you ll have something.

2.7 Airbox to 3.0 airbox (?)

A direct replacement airbox for your 2.7 will be the same box as a '80 - '83 US airbox. The US airbox for a '78 - '79 or a Euro '78 - '83 will have a larger runner diameter, both the OD and the ID, and will not fit your 2.7 runners.

Even though the later US 3.0 airbox will fit your 2.7, there would be no HP gain with this change alone.

. "The 6 airbox output connections and air runners on the 78-79 engines are larger than both the earlier and later cars. In '80 an internal metal manifold was added to the air box. This manifold routed the fuel mist from the cold start valve to the inputs of each air runner to better distribute this mist to each individual cylinder. Prior to this, the cold start valve sprayed fuel into the open intake manifold part of the airbox. The later airbox will retrofit to the '74 - '77, but not the 78-79 without a different rubber connecting sleeve."
