RHD Pedal Cluster Rebuild 1988 Problem
Hi eveyone,
My first posting here, although I've been an avid 'reader' for the forums for sometime. I've had my Right-hand Drive Targa 'Ferry' 1988 3.2 Carerra for 8 years now and done a fair amount of work on it in that time, heater flap valve replacement, oil tank replacement, valves, etc. I'm in the UK, by the way. I've hit my first problem today. For the last month or so, my clutch pedal has been 'binding' and squeaking when depressed, so I got a replacement 'Bronze' Bushing kit in. I asked the UK supplier if the kit (which covered up to the '86 911) would fit mine, and was told it would. Anyway, I've removed all the bolts from the cluster, but there are two horizontal shafts (Gas and Clutch), that run right across to the opposite footwell (below the floorboard), and terminate in a 'cradle' similar to the Pedal Cluster one. This seems to be because it's a right hand drive model. The shafts have additional rollpins in to split them, but having read about the difficulties of removing the 'usual' dreaded rollpin, I can't see that it will be straightforward to remove these additional pins in the car. It looks as though the passenger side 'cradle', may just slide through the metalwork in the middle front of the cabin (sort of an extension of the transmission tunnel), but it looks a very tight fit. Can anyone offer any suggestions, on how to remove the pedal cluster for rebuild? It came as a bit of a shock LOL, when faced with this additional 'cradle', and none of the manuals I have, have this situation covered, or even show the additional 'cradle'. Additionally, the clutch master cylinder rubber boot has some splitting to it. How is this boot removed? I'd be glad to hear from anyone that's done this job on a RHD. Photo of the passenger side 'cradle' - the two shafts just visible, 'disappearing' off to the right. ![]() Thanks in advance, Simon |
