???GIAC chip???

I have a GIAC chip for a 993 setup the way mine is in my C3 that I would like to try.

Went to install it it today and darned if I can see which end is which. I have 3 other chips, they all have a half-moon indent on one end to show which way they go in the socket. But not the GIAC.

Any one have a way to determine which end is which?

Hey Bill,

Each and every chip I've made and sold over the past 12 years has that little notch on the end to show which way it gets installed.

I've never seen any 27C512 or (27256C) chip that didn't have that,........

Might you have a nice sharp picture of that?

It should be an STi chip.

Does this look familiar?

Car wouldn't start w/ it in place, any advice?

LOL,..I share that same problem,...

That one is for a .675 '95 ECU which is the version with Drive Block so you'd need the Immobilizer module and matched key to make it all start & run.

There were three different '95 ECU versions sold in the US: .163, .674, and the .675. The first two have no Drive Block but there are software differences so the chip must be matched to the correctly-numbered ECU.

There is a mark on the Bosch CB to show polarity.

Drive Block Chip

Steve:

Does this chip only work on all Drive Block ECU's or is it only coded to work with one ECU only? I can e-mail GIAC, but they could only supply an ECU number that it should work with...

Thanks for the input!

Usually there is an indication in the silk screen indicating pin one or for a through hole part the land for pin 1 is square.

I would be concerned because the horizontal small outline package above it has pin one oriented the other direction.

That explains why the car won't start w/ that chip, oh well

Chad,

That chip works in all .675 Bosch ECU's.

If that other chip laying on your towel is your previous chip, it indicates that you you have a .03 DME unit, which means you need a chip that is programmed for the .674 non driveblock DME unit.

That's correct, the chip was given to me as an experiment. Now we know. Anyone want a free chip?
