ROW VIN Sticker question

I bought my '86 ROW m491 cab with a non porsche vin sticker in the door post. The original owners manual mentions the VIN plate in the hood but I cannot find any mention of the VIN sticker.

Were the ROW cars produced without the sticker or with the sticker? Any help will be appreciated as I do not want to spend $150 on a sticker that is non original.

Thanks

J

Privately imported cars are given a vin# by the state where the importer first registers the vehicle, at least mine was. That is forevermore the vin for that vehicle. It has nothing to do w/ the original vin assigned by Porsche on the production line.

My original Porsche vin is still stamped on a plate fastened to the drivers side A piller but the state sipplied one is on the door post.

Thanks Bill,

I guess I was lucky as the importer - Foreign Affairs in FL - was able to use the original Vin. I did find a pic on the web of another ROW car's imported VIN plate.

I guess I can use my money for something else.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine also has the vin plate on the right hand side next to the gastank. This vin plate includes the WPOZZZ vin number as well as the weight information. I will try and get a pic on this thread.

I believe DOT required the importers to add the VIN sticker to the door post. This sticker had to include:
1: the original manufacturer
2: the importer
3: the year of manufacture
4: the gross vehicle total weight in lb's
5: the weight on the front and rear tires in lb's
6: the vin number of the vehicle
