ignition charge light wont go out.

I have pulled my SC motor and stripped it down to short block. I left the alternator and shroud on to pull the cylinders. I just lifted the shroud enough to clear the engine.
Now the engine is back in . Fired first crank, running sweet. But the charge light stays on. It is a while since I pulled an alternator off, but from memory, those terminals are held on by nuts?
Are there any terminals under the shroud I could have dislodged to cause my charge problem.
Where else should I look.
Got to be a dislodged wire (hopefully not under shroud) or misplaced one.
Thx
Alan

Don't take offense ... but double check the tension on your fan belt.

Have you taken it for a drive and brought the RPMs up? If the light goes out with increased RPMs, there is a good chance the belt is too loose.

I put my fan on a new engine and didn't change the shims. Got the red light and figured I messed up the wiring at my alternator. After pulling it twice and finally having the alternator bench tested (was good) I realized that my belt was 1 shim too loose. I felt pretty stupid - especially for wasting so much time.

Sorted - my solution was even dummer. (No offense).
Had the solenoid wired wrong. AAhhh.
At least don't have to touch alternator.
Thx
