AFM Tampered with
A previous owner of my 1984 had the AFM leaned out to pass emissions, apparently twice looking back though old shop reciepts. I am not sure whether they did this via the clock spring or adjusted the needle on the track. On opening the meter I noticed silicone on the actual screw that adjusts the needle. Is this normal? Also is there a stock marking for where the clock spring should be from when the meter was intially calibrated. I want to get the meter set up as close to stock as possible before changing other variables. Thanks for any help.

There is a dab of what looks like silicone on mine, for the needle adjustment only. So I would guess the spring was only adjusted.

Thanks that helps a lot. The car is way too lean so I will try adjusting the spring.

The old L-jetronic air flow meters have what looks like a drop of silicone on that screw too. Needle position on resistance trace.
It's much easier to adjust the spring tension. Mark the origonal position and count the cogs on the wheel as turning so you have a reference point. |
