Another suspension question

Hi there
i would like to replace the old suspension on my 76 911 targa and need your help with the technicals terms please (english language problems too) .
anyway, although i drive my car only in public streets i love the hard ride of the car. could u please tell me what do i need to change (part numbers welcome otherwise just the part name with description ) ?

what about installing strut brace?

what about tie rod (turbo or not)?

what about Bump Steer Kit for 911 ?

what bushings / valves etc. i need?

dont want to go crazy with it but want the car to ride like a new one

Not needed for street use

yes for a lowered car, these range from simple $10 steering rack shims to $400 steering arm kits, which you need depends on how low the car is, the simple kits are ok for most street uses

I have always been extremely happy w/ Bilstein HD/Sport struts and shocks and stock rubber bushes in my '76 C3 targa, you can go hard core w/ poly bushes but that is a choice that should be made after driving cars equipped that way. It's not for every one. I also like adjustable sway bars if you like to fiddle, if not stock C3 sways are a good choice for your car.

To me a lowered factory C3 w/ 7(8) & 9x16s, w/ factory rubber bushes, t-bars, sways is a perfect street set up.

You might also want to look at Pelican Part's Suspension Wizard which will take you step by step through your suspension and gives some excellent suggestions on what will work best on your car. http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/wizards/parts_wizard.cgi?wizard_root=911_suspension_wizard

Bill, I think you're right on the money here. I'm in the process of replacing all the bushings in my car with OEM replacements, the only ones left to do are the A-arm bushings, and the front ball joints. Even with just the stock T-bars, 8x9x16" Fuchs, A-arm bushings rotated, All new sway bar bushings and drip links front and rear, new rear trailing arm bushings inside(OEM) and out(Neatrix), and lowered just a tad below "euro ride height", the car is a dream to drive; I use it as my daily driver, and it deals very well with bumps in the road, and glides along solidly yet smoothly over all other pavement surfaces. Porsche knew what they were doing when they engineered the suspension in our cars.

your '76 is decades old

replace every piece of rubber on the car...

that will greatly improve the ride and the handling and will keep you out of trouble for a while too

I completely agree with this, I just had my suspension redone and the rubber in it was just rock solid. I know this sounds bad, but check you motor and transmission mounts too while you are at it. I know mine were completely shot.

a few sp. tools may be needed [ball joints] but as long as you have bigger stuff than for a bike you should be set

numerous threads on everything you need to do
