Scissor Lift - Brag About Yours and Your Set Up

Gents/Ladies

Starting to do more and more of my own maintenance and wondering what types of scissor lifts are in the hands of Pelicans?

How do you have them set up in your shop?
How stable are they?
How much better are they than jack stands?
Any jobs that you can't do on jack stands?
Should I splurge and get a real lift?

I'm 5,9. Can I stand under a scissor jack/lift?

Time to express your opinion.

Please brag and post pixs.

Thanks

Wellborn

At 5-9 you will not be able to stand under a scissors lift. If you do a search there are a pile of threads with photos of installations.

You won't be able to stand under a scissors lift. I have a 39" lift from Harbor Freight, and it has been a great tool for me.

Run a search and you will find that there are several guys here that have a similar lift and they all seem to be very pleased with it.

Jackman, I've been thinking about getting a lift as well. It could more than pay for itself by reducing the number of trips to the shop. Let me know if you go check out Oliver88s, I'd like to tag along.

I got my scissor lift in December and next to the Carrera that's presently on it, it's the coolest thing in my garage. No you can't stand directly under it but, you can sit under it on a creeper stool comfortably. When I got mine I put my 911 up on the lift to see how high it wound be and how stable. Lets just say I was very happy with my choice. The other factors to consider are how much room a twin post lift takes up [lots] and with the scissor working on the sides [waxing] or interior is much easier. So far I've also had my 94 bmw 530 on it to fix the window regulator, how nice it was to do that standing up! The lift I got is a Hanmescon and I can get great deals on them but this site sells a similar one so I'll say no more about that. So if you haven't already figured it out I love this tool, and can't recommend it too highly, you'll be amazed at the possibilities.

This is the set up I would like to have. Recess the lift down into the concrete...

So I'm thinking about building a scisor lift for myself - there isn't much to them.

How tippy are they with a rear engine mounted car on them at full height?

I'm concerned that the rolling end would move forward and make the car want to tip toward the back end.

I have the Bend Pak and have it recessed into the floor....Lifts the car about 65 inches and when down it can be covered with a plate. I think it is the best money I've spent in my shop and I'm sure it has already paid for itself in saved labor on reapirs/maintenance that i can now do myself.

Any pics? How is the concrete finished? I am assuming you need a fairly thick pad to begin with...

Oh Yeah

Thanks guys.

Brant,

Doug, Doug and I will be over soon to check out your place. I have a valve adjust due on mine before the driving season. I don't want to do that on jack stands.

Mine's the same as Tim's and Souk's. Great unit that isn't solely used on my SC.

Hey criv911 & oliver 88 - can you post pics of what the lifts look like that you are refering to. I have googled them both and cant find either one.
Also, are either of you using any such "scissor lift"? If so, your comments?
Thanks! Bob

I've always wanted a single piston "gas station" lift. I've seen them FS for under 400 bucks. I guess they can't be used commercially anymore due to underground leaks. Not too portable, though.
