Trans experts needed - anyone seen an "A" second mainshaft??
I have this 901 mainshaft with a tiny spur gear. Teeth count are 11/34 which would make it an "A" second gear!?!?!?! . Anyone ever seen this?
totally at a loss on this one

That is the ‘A’ 11:34 1st gear set from a type 911/xx, 901/xx or 902/xx 4-speed manufactured after 1967.
It appears to have the ‘reinforced’ 14 mm thread on the end of the shaft. If so, you can have the gear teeth ground off the shaft and weld on either a 904 type 2nd gear or any 3rd gear to make whatever suitable ratio you want. As it is it is useful for an ‘autocross gears’ transmission. Of course it is still a good 4-speed replacement part. What is the condition of the engagement teeth on the 'free' gear II? What is the date on the gears? Best, Grady

Hi Grady,
Thanks for the response. The teeth on both gears are in excellent condition as best I can tell visually. The date is 68.
