Old fuel filter
I changed the fuel filter in my recently acquired 82 SC. The manufacturing date on the Mahle filter says Sept. 1993 and it still referred to Made in West Germany. No telling how long that thing had been in there, but the gas I poured out of the "in" side had a distinct tinge to it. Some gorilla had really tightended the lower fitting and I was ready to give up and let shop do it before giving it a final try. I noticed the Hengst filter I put in has about twice as wide a 22mm hex area on the filter to grab; a major problem getting the old one out was the 22mm hex area was so narrow it was very hard to keep a wrench on it (rounded the crap out of it and ended up using vise grips since it was not being reused).

The good news is those things are big so lots of filter in there to hold all the junk form the past decade! Mark the new filter when you install it so you are reminded when you put it on and when you should replace it. Like yearly.
