Which Dremel bit for exhaust nuts?

Tomorrow I get my SW chip and cat bypass from Steve and figured I would take off the old cat beforehand. I got five of the nine off with normal tools, sweat, and a bit of blood. But the last four will have to be cut off. Would anyone recommend a 1.5 inch cutoff wheel, die grinder, or the fiberglass disks. Or is there a better way? I do not think a nut cracker will fit and a chisel seems extreme. Thanks in advance and I will post my seat of pants dyno results after it is completed.

My exhaust nuts laughed at me when I attempted to use a dremel. If you don't have heat (Oxy), can you take them to a muffler shop and let them remove the nuts? I used a combination of die grinder, drill, and lot's of cursing many years ago (I didn't have "heat" at the time)

The dremel might not be strong enough, but I'd go after it with a cutoff wheel. The key to remember is to not force the dremel down onto the bolt. You have to let the cutoff wheel do its job.

I just installed my SW chip and m&k cat bypass last weekend and finally made the last bit of adjustments to the idle yesterday. I am very impressed by the chip.

I have a straight carbide bit that I have had for several years and have cut numerous bolts etc. It has never met its match. I just cut through one side then split the nut.

Dremel makes some small cut off wheels, if you don't have access to air tools. They work OK on bolts and nuts.

I used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel on a couple of nuts which wouldn't budge. Sliced through them very easily.

I saw the carbide disk on their website and thought that looked real good. I think the cutoff wheel is also the next best thing.

Cut off wheel and split the nuts - or if you are lazy - call your local muffler shop and find when their "down time" is - take your new hardware with you - have em cut off the old with a torch - and put on the new - Some places will do this for $20-$40. That makes it really easy.

Use a chisel, you will thank me.

Once the rust breaks it will come off easily. I went through 10 grinding wheels on the dremel until I used my chisel set.

Just take care not to chisel into the pipe housing.

Oxyacetylene and a cutting tip will get those nuts off in about 15 seconds each.

I used the 1 1/2 inch cutoff wheel. It cut thru the nut and the bolt in about 30 seconds. One of the best tool experiances I have ever had. I used the dremel at 30,000 rpm.
