Erik's Shift Knob restoration service

My son Erik has developed a process for restoring crazed shift knobs...

Quote:

I have developed a process for restoring Shift Knobs.

I can restore your crazed shift knob. (early 911, 912 and 914 black knobs with crystal tops)

The service costs $75 plus $6.25 for return postage.

I have a limited supply of shift knobs that I have restored and are available for exchange if you are in a hurry.

At this time I am not selling any shift knobs without a repairable core.

If you want your exact knob back I can keep track of that too.

Thanks!

It would be very helpful if you could post some before and after pics - as well as the years you restore. Thanks

I have to agree. A picture is worth a thousand words as the old saying goes.

He never touches the shift pattern part That part stays in its current state. Only the outer surface of the black part and the clear cover are refinished. If you would like him to do one for you, he would be happy to.

Send your knob along with your return address, and $81.25 to

So the outer surface of the shift pattern can't be restored or the owner chose not to have this done? Thanks,

Just a little hobby paint and a fine brush can make that look like brand new and if you get the color just close enough the sun should help make it match over time too. I would start offering a pattern "touch up" for an additional fee. I would stress to clients that it won't immediately match but should be close.

Does the new clear cover have the same dome shape as the original?

It does look nice and clear without the scratches but I couldn't tell if the dome was still there?

LOL

yes the dome is still there,

no we cant fix what is underneath (please use a knob that isn't as damaged as the one we used for the pictures... this was a "worst case senerio" to show what can be fixed.

yes it still retains the dome shape

His work fixes the "crazing" on the original clear plastic and the black plastic as well.

Next we will post before and after pics of what we consider to be a "good candidate" for restoration...
