Headlight washers. Can I remove this pump?
I deleted the headlight washers/sprayers in my front bumper and I would like to clean up the plumbing in the front.
Can someone please confirm that the parts that I have so skillfully pointed to with the red arrows are in fact part of the headlight washer system? Can I remove these two lines and this big ugly pump and still have the windshield washer system function correctly? Also, the relay looks brand new. Is this for the washer system? Thanks ![]() ![]() |

You have correctly identified the parts - the headlamp washer pump and the relay to control it. You can remove the relay and the pump, and plug the hose coming in to the pump from the fluid tank, and all will be well. I went to the trouble of installing this system at one time on my car (Euro '77, now in SC trim). Had a racing wreck, got a new bumper (among other parts) and found it had different sized holes for a later, flush mount washer. Then the used pump I had acquired failed - plastic hose connection tube broke off, epoxy repairs failed. So my new squirters are just hole fillers. But I never used them anyway. Walt Fricke |
