I guess you won't have over heating issues with the motor

Locally, Jack was the only guy that I knew running a 911. I don't think he has driven it in about 4 or 5 years. Jack has been spending his winters in New Zeeland lately.

Eurasia in Edmonton, who sponsored him in the 911, burned a couple of years ago, and has only recently re-opened. You might give them a call and see if they have any ice racing plans.

Our Mountain Region – PCA holds an annual ice auto-X on the reservoir in Georgetown, Colorado. It is great fun. I think I still have a set of Michelin 185/70-15 with 198 bolts per tire.

Best,
Grady

Ice racing is a contact sport so I would be prepared to use up sheet metal. I can think of a few ways to go fast for cheaper.

In Alaska the hottest ice racing was a 73 Super Beetle with a 911 motor. At 1300lbs it would carry both front tires out of the corner and would leave a rooster tail of ice chips about 1-1/2 times the height of a light pole. No one could touch it.

The hot trick for tires was getting a 60 series tire retreaded with a heavy lug truck tread and then put 10 to 15 pounds of sheet rock screws in the tire. We were shooting for then to protrude 3/8". Once the screws are in you cover the inside of the tire with RTV to smooth out the screw heads and then use some reinforced conveyer belt material as an inner liner. The last touch was to use a tube to seal the whole thing. Some cars would have to screw the rims to the tire bead to keep the tire from rotating on the rim.

A 911 has a great layout for an ice car but I can't imagine beating up the car like that. (and then paying the bill!) Besides, when you are done some fool is going to put a 911 motor in something disposable like a Beetle and beat the tar out of you.

well things ...

1 st off the car i want to use is this one......( can t really be fixed for road use)

2 nd , i dont think i can run a 911 mil due to we can only run a max of 2.0l 4 cyl, so i wa thinking of cloning that car into 912e spec,

3rd i have benn ice racing for a few years , i know its a contact sport , but most of the guys i race with are pretty good, my thoughtts are this 911 will be crushed or parted anyway, so why not? the mill and interior will be going in gary's 77 s , so that leaves the tub for me to play with

Sorry about the car. Looks like a good fun ice racer.

I always though the best racecars are cars that you don't care too much about. (usually someone elses ) This one may have reached that point.

Too bad they won't let you run the 3 liter. Would they let you run the 2 liter 6 cylinder? That would scream.

You'd think once the rear went it driving a 911 would be rather hard to bring it back on ice. I'd go buy a beater Miata or MR2 and try that!

Geat fun indeed!

Winter evenings spent in the high school parking lot with the old bug was not wasted time! (Maybe we were wasted??) I did learn something.

In CO, best part is the (downhill) run home to the plains..

At least you don't have to worry about oil stains if you run it on snow...
