'91 964 Turbo A/C help...Freon leak....

Just had the valves adjusted by a local Porsche master mechanic and few days later noticed a/c wasn't working...Got to found out the seal between the compressor and the manifold is leaking
Got two questions...
1)-Could the mechanic have caused something during the valves adjustment for this gas-kit leak ?
2)-Where can i source this gas-kit ?
Thanks
Yasir

It is possible that the leak at the compressors connections was caused by its removal for the valve adjustment.
The mechanic probably did nothing out of the ordinary though. It is a very tough place to have to work and removal of the compressor is part of the job. Gaskets and O rings after years of service can become brittle and when they are under pressure they can start to leak when they are disturbed.
So your mechanic probably did nothing wrong unless he disconnected the suction and discharge lines from the compressor while he did the work. It is common practice to pad the passenger rear fender and place the compressor with lines attached on the fender.

That might be the valve plate. You would need an exploded view of the compressor to find out what you need.
Perhaps one of the resident auto a/c guys will chime in...

Looks like a very EXPENSIVE fix.

To replace the gasket it will require evacuation of the remaining freon in the system, removal of the compressor and replacement of the gasket, reinstallation of the compressor, replacement of the drier, evacuation of the system and refill with very expensive R12.

Doubtful the compressor leak was caused when and if the compressor was removed from its mount; unless someone decided to remove the compressor manifold (that is what the hoses connect to) rather than the compressor mount bolts.

If you are sure the leak is where you have circled, you need a manifold gasket seal for a 10PA15C.

I'm with Kuehl on this one, kinda doubtful if a Porsche master mechanic would remove the compressor manifold to adjust the valves, maybe a Chevy or Ford master mechanic would do that.

There's a bolt at the bottom of that manifold and that's where the mechanic sees the freon leaking as the bolt has the yellow dye on it..
Now where can i order that seal ?
Thanks...

Or you could go to a Mercedes or Porsche dealer, the comprerssor is used in both type of cars.

If the leak is under one of the four "allen head" bolts, then it is probably the manifold gasket. If the leak is under one of the two "hex head" bolts that hold down the hose fittings, then it is probably an o-ring.

You could try re-tightening the four 6 mm allen head bolts and the two hex heads, 18 ft lbs, wash off the dye tracer and check again.

Have you asked your mechanic the question?
