Close Encounter with a 2009 ZR-1

My friend and quasi-nephew, Bill Romero took the below pictures with a cell phone camera, so apologies for the low resolution quality. He encountered this ZR-1 yesterday, Oct 9 in the basement garage of the L.A. Times credit union building.

Bill used to be a Times employee and says he remembers the same individual always had the latest cars...I think for test drives before articles the paper was going to do. Anyway, I thought you guys would get a kick out these

My understanding is these will be a little over $100,000.
Actually cheap for what it is, what it does.

I saw one at the Auto show in OC last week - a blue one. Nice.

More impressive for me, however, was the black 997 GT2 that I followed for about 10 minutes on the 405 freeway a couple of mornings ago. More my style.

I was going to say Dan....pardon me for not getting excited about this plastic car when I come here to get my daily dose of air cooled iron.

There were a couple up at Elkhart Lake for the fall vintage festival. Very much derived from the ALMS program and high performance. Not sure about the cheesy see thru hood...why would a stylist do that? The in car video from the Nurburgring was pretty impressive, though I'm not a Vette guy, but have plenty of friends that are.

I wouldn't turn down having one in my garage. Even though I think the see-through hood supercharger thing is kinda cheesy.

If they don't go belly up in the meantime...market capitalization is less than $2.5 billion, with enough liquidity to maybe last 12 to 18 months.

I know what you mean, current owner of a '90 ZR1, was bad ass then and still is very fast, just a certain feeling of being one of the first to own one, about 620HP for the new one, but truthfully I still enjoy my '83 SC cab more, just a totally different car in so many ways, but I still can't let go of the vette or for that matter the TR-250 I have also holds a special place in my heart as well. Love em all but the porsche , to me, is the most unique and fun.

Corvette could do worse than to be sold to Porsche. save the brand while finally providing an alternative for 928 die-hards.

600 hits in less the a day, seems to be alot of interst in this plastic car. Ferrari's, porsche's and alike have there hands full with this one. AT $110k it is true enthusiast's dream for the money, performance, handling and a very hadsome package at an affordable price. I personally feel this may be the last year of the horsepower war, there comes a time when enough is enough, how often will you ever get to exercise what this car has to offer, 0-60 in the 3. change second range, 1/4 mile 11 second plus range, very impressive #'s but not me anymore. Bought one new in '90, king of the hill then, now king of the ant hill, put me in my old 911 and I'm very content. Getting old I guess, hats off to the good old USA.

I like them both - ZR1 and Viper ACR are both incredible cars. The ZR1 is likely more civilized however.

Ditto to that comment Scott, however once in while I enjoy uncivilized. I'd enjoy opening my garage door and seeing either of them, or for that matter perhaps a GT3 RS! I still enjoy opening the garge door and see what I have as well. Always room for dreams.

I'd 'of said the same thing "cheap" although these cars are "inexpensive". Not bad, but..... Porsche's for me......give back the most I can find in many ways than just driving amusement. There is no substitute.
