Chicago Porsche Trip'n Fall 2008! Oct 12th

Instead of a Cars and Coffee in October, several people expressed interest in a fun run. October 12th should be a good date. If the weather doesn't cooperate (heavy rain or snow ..eek!), we can postpone the fun run for a week and do it on the 19th.

Times for the day: (we'll be flexible, but someone has to keep the group on schedule)

6:30 AM – 7 AM - meet at the Silver Dollar diner in Yorkville (corner of Route 47 and Route 71)

8 AM – leave the Silver Dollar diner for Starve Rock on Route 71.

10 AM – be on I39 going North to connect to Route 20.

Route 71 from the Silver Dollar to Ottawa is pretty straight and boring, but good for blowing the carbon out of the combustion chambers.

Starve Rock Segment: (we will be going west from (2) to (1) on the linked map)

Some folks are only doing the Starve Rock run, which is fine. So don't let the rest of this trip stop others from showing up if you have limited time for driving your car around.

From Starve Rock, we can take Hwy 39 north toward Rockford and connect with Route 20 to go west toward Galena. Hopefully we'll have a handful of adventurers for the rest of this trip.

After we lunch and browse in Galena, we head back east on this route:

If someone wants to skip the Starve Rock run and meet up with us near Rockford for the Galena run, pick a place on Route 20 and we'll blast by you

Disclaimer: We're all adults. Drive responsibly and safely. You assume all risk and liability for your actions.

Snow isn't far off guys....

Hey..is Sarah still reading? Sarah? I recall there was discussion a long time ago about some drivers from your area meeting up with Chicago drivers at Galena.

Anyone in Missouri want to meet us there too? You can join us on the Stagecoach Trail run and then swing back on Route 20 to get home.

Sunday's weather forcast looks great!

We're running a modified route to Galena, so if you're not on the Chicago Yahoo group, make sure you e-mail me for the new route.

Damn,
I am out of town again and will miss this get together which looks like a blast. Watch the speed on 20, they make a lot of money on that road.

Dang, I was just up in Galena last weekend for Oktoberfest! Sounds like fun, though. You may want to try route 67 south that follows the river and leads to an awesome-scary bridge outside Savannah - narrow, long and old!
While in Galena, I must recommend Vinnie Vanuchi's for the calimari and the Log Cabin for an excellent cheeseburger.

Enjoy!

There is also a race in Chicago on October 12. It's called the CHICAGO MARATHON.

Souk,
How is it going? I'm glad I saw this thread. I may take the trusty '83 out for a sojourn.

Since he abandon the Mrs. last weekend, maybe he can make it up to her by taking her to Galena for lunch......if he wasn't such a meat head, he'd think of that.

I'll see if the wifey is interested. The 911 "RACE" car is not the most forgiving ride when it comes to my significant other, so we'll see what she says........... Maybe I can put her in the cushy Kiwior 993 cab with Trish and make it more appealing for her?

I'm trying to get Heather to go along. She asked, "are you taking the black car?" I said yes, but little does she know that the suspension is not as comfy as it was when she was last in the car.

If we can work out the baby situ, she might join us....then the girls can all pile into Trish's cab LOL!

Not going to be able to make it. Snailmobile is a brutal ride (for the wifey) and she doesn't want to ride with anyone but me, so we won't be attending. Gotta drive the Porsche, so I can't substitute the X3 or the Mazda. Plus I can't get the Porsche out of the garage- blocked by a dumpster filled with disposed landscape river rock.
