Headlight / turn signal problem. HELP PLEASE!!

Hello All,

I have an 83 SC and recently replaced the turn signal / high beam switch on the steering column. All was great until I drove at night with my headlights. I then turned my lights off upon arriving at home and my turn signal indicators came on....not blinking, just on....I tried moving the lever right or left, forward or backward and they just stayed on! I then pulled the headlight switch on again and they went out!!!!????? This scenario repeats itself everytime I use the lights. Any ideals??? Did I mix up a wire connection??? I really dont see how I could have because it was pretty straight forward. Perhaps a bad light switch now???

Thank you for your help!!!
mg

I'm thinking a crossed wire somewhere. How about pulling it apart and rechecking everything?

IIRC, there is an extra wire on the switch that you can be tempted to plug in that is yellow, I think. I had that problem and when I turned my dash dimmer switch the headlights dimmed as well. Like a British car, the smoke came out of the wires. When the smoke gets out, the wires don't work anymore.
