Another Motormeister special...

Engine failed at 1000 miles after rebuild?? Looks like a clean chassis though...

Hey MJ, this was brought up a few days ago. What a pity about the engine...

Regardless of the quality of a particular part that they might sell, and regardless of the price, why would you consider buying anything from these guys!?

You'd be giving money to someone who screws porsche owners for a living. Solidarity man. Friends don't let friends buy from MM.

If I had a tired 911 engine laying around, it would be interesting to have MM rebuild it, just to tear it down and see what they did.

I bought some 964 cams from them a few years ago. No problems. I well know engine builder told me horror stories of some the MM motors they have redone. One of the things he found was

MM claims an IRAN concept, which they borrowed from the aviation business- inspect and repair as necessary. The problem is that some stuff is LIFE LIMITED- like a cam sprocket, these things wear out over time, why wouldn't you replace them? Ahh, but that drives up the cost of the rebuild, and that's not consistent with their position in the market.

It's like buying cheap computer equipment-- you take a chance that it works, and if it burns up the price is so low you buy another one. Except that the numbers don't work in the MM context, which is why everybody steers clear.

Tim,

Elgin regrinds for $280!!

I don't know who MM uses for their regrinds or if they do it in house. If its the latter, STAY AWAY.

I forgot who I talked to at Elgin, but he was quite knowledgeable. It wasn't Dima though. If you talk to him, even better.

I bought a pair of MM reground cams from a fellow board member. I think I gave him $20. I sent them to Elgin to check the specs. After inspection they found they're way to the trash can.

For what it's worth. I don't think MM rebuilt that motor. If you re-read the ad it says that MM offered technical help. It sounds like the PO did his own rebuild.

Can anyone please comment , if MM is that bad, how can they stay in business? Their company looks pretty big from thee web site. MM must have done something right to stay in the business. I am 15 min. away from MM. I might do business with them someday.

Let us hope that the aviation business never, ever bears ANY semblance to Motor Meister

I've never heard of the "IRAN" concept and I've been spinning wrenches in General as well as Commercial Aviation for going on 20 years now. I can ASSURE you that Life Limited Parts (LLP's) as well as most other parts in an aircraft are tracked and their condition accounted for even during a Light Maintenance Visit (LMV).

If Motor Meister was as heavily policed by an entity such as the FAA, they would cease to exist with fines and jailtime abounding for negligence and fraud.

Like lumber from Home Depot, if you have the time you can measure and send back parts to MM until you get some in spec. BTDT with a crank.

IRAN is not an aviation concept, it's a _military_-aviation concept. Quite common there.
