Swap from flags to 72 style mirror.
Looking at the two and doing a search, it looks like you have to weld up a little to do the swap. This has me thinking would it be easier to just grab a door off of a 73 if I wanted to do this if I am not able to weld? I am about to get going on backdating and want to change the mirrors and the rear windows to pop outs.
I want to put this mirror on the car.

First, the photo you posted is of a 72-73 year mirror which is very expensive to come by, if you can find one. The 74-75 mirror is similar, just a little larger (base is the same.) So, unless you already have the 72-73 mirror, you'll probably have better luck with the later style as they are still available new, and come up more often used.
Second, if you are thinking of adding a right side mirror, forget finding a 72-73 size--even in reproduction. If you want dual mirrors, you'll need to go with the larger size with the right side a reproduction, most likely. Third, any door used prior to 76 should have the two holes for the mirror. However, I would bet it's cheaper to simply have a body shop weld up the holes than to purchase a new door.
