The OEM plug wire kit appears to be $700

911-602-011-03-OEM

Genuine Porsche Ignition Wire Set, Shielded Cables - Left, 911 Carrera (1985-89)
$333.25
911-602-012-03-OEM

Genuine Porsche Ignition Wire Set, Shielded Cables - Right, 911 Carrera (1985-89)
$341.5

Anyone have experience with the :

Magnecor Wire Set including coil wire, KV85 (red) 911 Carrera 1985-89 [Photo]
$158.00

All I'm trying to do is clean up the engine compartment and new wires would look great.

Any other recommendations?

How about this: Buy some generic plug leads (long) and use your old caps etc, generally the metal end clips inside are easy to pry open and re-attach to new cables.

Should be fairly easy.

I've got two cars running with Clewett wires. They are sold on this site - about $130 a set. Richard Clewett (maker) is a good guy - real Porsche drive it/race it/build it kinda guy.

I have been running those Magnacor wires for some time now on my '84. The only issue I have had is the factory wire looms are too small.

People have had great luck with aftermarket suppliers. Keep in mind you're talking about a car company stocking and offering parts for almost a 30 year old car. in that context, $700 seems pretty reasonable.

Bottom line, the factory wires for 3.2s and 3.6s are expensive...but they're the ONLY one's I'd use on those cars.

The only plug wires that were arc y sparky on any car I've ever owned were the factory wires in my 84 when I bought it. Open the engine lid at night and it was like a lightening storm in there.

Magnacores work great in the basic ignition system.

I've had the red Magnacors for several years. No problems. I got aftermarket looms for them— might have even been from Magnacor.

Only way I would put $700 of wires on my car even if they are Porsche is there wouldn't be anything else to get. JMHO I have Magnacor's and have been great. Just had to bore out the factory wire looms. Just too many other goodies that left over $500+ would buy.

Magnecore's are a great product; Nobody in their right mind would pay that much for plug wires, and if you don't want to bore out the wire looms, get the blue wires; those are the same gauge as factory

One more for Magnacor. Great stuff. The dealers can stuff their $700 set of wires.

Then enjoy paying $700 for wires that are no better than the ones you can get $150-$170. But hey, it's your money.

A fair number of people on this board use either the Magnecor and the Clewett wires and have been very happy with them. Including me.
