carl - same here, 205/50 and 225/50. currently dunlop R but trying the new kuhmo's for my next event.

Great looking car! Just curious, why run 8s and 9s if you're only running 205/225? And what is the offset on the Minilite 9s?

mainly because we have to work within class rules that state max wheel width is 9" and min tyre profile is 50 series. there are no suitable 50 series 15" competition tyres available that are wider than a 225. that said, 205/225 feel a lot better on 8/9 than on 7/8 as they have a much straighter (ie. less bulging) sidewall.

we also get an increased track without having to run very wide spacers and - lets not forget - the minilites look cool...

from memory, the minilite backspace is 4 3/4"

john - you should get yourself down here for a tarmac rally. i'm sure i could find you a spot in the screaming seat in someone's car...

lots of good craic after each day too (everybody suddenly gets very fast)

obrut 12-08-2008 02:19 PM

hey mr p - i think OJ is still shaking from his passenger experience with me driving on the 'wrong' side of the road of the first time...

What size spacer do you run on the rear? Also, why the Fuchs up front? Is there not a Minilite 8" wheel that will fit the front of a 911?

Love the uTube clips

6mm spacer on the rear. could run without also.

minilite do make a 8" wheel but i already had 8" fuchs from the rear of the car that i could put on the front..

also, most ST's ran fuchs F and minilites R back in the day as wider fuchs were not then available.

Well done Ryan. A work of art.

Congrad's doing the Adelaide :)

Shaun @ Tru6 01-10-2012 06:25 PM

these are EXACTLY the size and shape of the front and rear flares I want to do on my car. do you have more detail on how they were made?

obrut 01-10-2012 08:11 PM

Hi Shaun,

Thanks - it took lots of work, is bloody fast and lots of fun.

The front guards are fibreglass - and I 'believe' moulded from an original 2.8RSR. Or a mould of a mould etc. I'm in Australia and they were sourced locally. I'm happy to dig out the supplier but the shipping costs may hurt.

As to the rear, they are steel. The car had previously been fitted with RS rear flares. A semi-circular cut was made from just above the torsion bar hole to around near the tail light housing. The outer part of the guard was then pulled outwardly and a filler piece welded into the gap formed by the widening of the cut.

Hope this helps.

Shaun @ Tru6 01-11-2012 03:50 AM

Thank you Ryan, it is truly one of the nicest executions I've seen. Perfect proportions for my eye.

Please email or PM the supplier, we can always put them on a boat.

Sounds like a lot of work to pull out the flare! but the result is perfect. I may just try to stretch my rear flares or, somewhat like you did, cut them off short and weld on a new pair long.

thanks again!

Every once in a while, one comes along that is perfect....at least to my eye. Nice job.

regards,
al

Thanks for the kind words guys. Lots of time, effort and money in this one.

That said, some of my most memorable driving experiences have been in this car: over a dozen tarmac rallies (targa tasmania, classic adelaide etc); countless track days; and a few sports car races to boot.

Classic Adelaide 2008 - Corkscrew - YouTube

Ps. Shaun: from memory, the cut does not go the whole way - it stops short of the torsion bar hole and the tail light housing - so the outer part of the flares remains connected to the car during the flaring process.
