SAMSON scheme 911ST build is finished!

hi all

i posted these pics over on the early911s board and thought i would place them here also for all of the long hood fans.

the background to this car is my last tarmac rally was in november 07 and, lets just say, it didn't end well...

my pride was hurt more than the car but it was decided to give the car a birthday. we have changed the bodywork from 911RS to 911ST, fibreglass ST front guards (over 8" fuchs) and custom flared metal rear guards covering 9" minilites. the car was already dark blue so we went with the signal yellow bumpers as per the Samson cars.

we also decided to fit a bunch of the parts i have been gathering over the last few years, including 911R lights kits, mesh grills, centre fill cap, 911R deck lid hinges and mesh screen, hood lights. all of the glass has been replaced with lexan except the front windscreen.

the motor (twin plug, MFI) was also rebuilt and taken from 2.7 to 2.8. the car already had a close ratio 915 with a quaife diff. the last piece of the puzzle is the twin muffler (which is now sitting at the shop) that needs to be bolted on and then its done. fin.

suspension remained the same (23/31 t bars and adj sways) as did the brakes (boxster calipers at both ends with dual m/c). (front suspension has settled so the front ride height needs to come up about an inch)

here's some pics. (yeah yeah it needs a wash - i've been busy)

if the rain clear, first track test is tomorrow.

my next rally is in about a fortnight. i'll probably go a little easier...

hope you like the pics.

Thanks for the pics, and for solving my dilema, am putting my 74 Carrera (LHD) back on the road after buying it as a non goer. Thanks to this site I have been able to get the parts i need.. now have the car running and was undecided about original bumpers or going lightweight with orange bumpers (car is black) you've made my decision easier...great looking car, thanks for the inspiration.
regards
Glenn

Very envious! I'm backdating a 78SC to an ST replica.

May I ask where you got you front fenders/flares from?

saintz 10-29-2008 04:11 PM

very bloody impressive.
stunning.

obrut 10-29-2008 04:48 PM

thanks guys. i've been blown away with people's response to this car. makes the work worthwhile.

glenn - the scheme works well with impact bumpers cars too, see:
http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18253

cuanlee - the fenders (fibreglass) were made by chequered flag restorations in melbourne (i am in australia)

Thanks for the info, but damn!...

...as a South African living in the USA I guess I have both a moral and a logistical problem facing me.

Seriously though, its a pity they're Australian-based. The shaping seems very well done. Some of the options I've seen here in the US aren't as pretty.

Great looking car!!! One question, what does the blue triangular sticker on the front fender mean? Is it an indicator to the circuit breaker under the front hood?

ChkbookMechanic 10-30-2008 05:36 AM

Nice! It looks rally-ready.

356RS 10-30-2008 06:43 AM

Ryan, You did a FANTASTIC job. The car is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

CarlP 10-30-2008 10:52 PM

Cool!

Beautiful Car! I have an RS replica with 15X8&9 (Yes, I cheated), and settled for 205-50 and 225-50s. What did you use for tires?
