Oil leak from pressure switch... now e-brake / pressure light gremlin
I have an '87 Carrera and after an oil change to Mobil 1, I developed a leak.
![]() After some looking I noticed that it was coming from the oil pressure switch. Even though I made up my mind to change back to Dino oil, Brad Penn I changed out the switch without too much trouble.Went to warm her up and check the oil level and I noticed that the oil pressure light does not come on with the alternator light when the ignition switch is thrown but comes on when the car starts. The alternator light goes off as you would expect. Druck gauge oil pressure is fine and the switch leak seems to be gone. At first thought I must have a bad switch but then I noticed that the e-brake light does not go out. Independent of whether the parking brake is on or off... ![]() I was able to reach around to the pressure switch no problem and I did not need to remove anything for the install. I have big arms but I don't think I did too much man handling of the areas hoses and wires either. Any ideas??? Could this be two different issues just happening at the same time??? Is it possible that the e-brake and the warning light have something in common??? I would appreciate any input. -John

I also have a failure that affects both the oil warning light and e-brake warning lights.
When my '83 SC is cold, I have plenty of oil pressure and the e-brake warning light stays off. As the car warms up the warning light comes on below 2 bars pressure and the e-brake warning light comes on. The pressure sender show 1 bar/1K rpm so I don't think it is actually an oil pressure issue. I am expecting to replace the oil pressure warning sensor. It would be nice to hear if this is the issue. Anyone else have these symptoms? Thanks, Stan |

Okay,
The connector to the Oil Light Switch, may have severed at the wiring loom ergo open cicruit throwing the light. It is very brittle and may have broken off. Check with a mirror and correct if you can or wait for an engine drop to solder it on properly. As far as the E-brake, it is coincidence the the ground may have wiggle off. It require you to remove the brake, and re-connect the ground. I found removing a seat makes it allot easier. Hope this helps, Jim

It's been a few years but if I remember right, I bought the wrong switch. They have different color bases, red and black (polarity maybe). It solved both issues.
As usual for me, puzzling problems... operator error. -John
