TruDesign 17" tire sizes

Just got a beautiful set of 17" x 8" and 17" x 9.5" wheels from Jim @ TruDesign. Anyone running 225 x 45 fronts and 265 x 40 rears on a stock SC without rubbing issues? Jim recommended a couple of options for sizes, but I'd like to go with what I know will work without rolling the fenders. Thanks in advance!

I run that size wheel on my C3, what works will depend on suspension and wheel o/s. For tires I use 235/45 & 275/40 but will likely switch to 235/40 & 265/40 for the next set. But the fender lips have been excised and tweeked out. In addition oil line was moved and suspension arm bolts shaved.

If you really want to avoid doing any additional work, 225/45 & 255/40 will be your best bets.

+1 225/255 is your best bet without all the mods, i run 225/275 but had to do the fenders, oil line and shaved bolts.
Bill... how do those 235's fit, any rubbing etc.

the 235s fit fine now but it was a lot of work to get them that way.

the lips are almost totally gone, leaving a nice big arch, a little more neg camber, the flange at the leading edge of the wheel well where the bumper and fender join needed to be trimmed.

I have 235/40 on TDW 8x17 on the front w/ approx 5" backspace; lips just rolled , raised spindles, decambered ball joints, polybronze, 23 t/b, 22 s/b and a lot of neg camber. I seem to have a lot of room in there.

Something that a lot people don't think about is torsion bars and bushings. I've seen lot of wheel/tires fit under static conditions, and even during normal driving, but once they get compressed w/ aggressive canyon or track driving you find out that they rub or cut.

Point is, anyone thinking of running an aggressive wheel/tire setup on a stock suspension should stay conservative and leave plenty of room.

Any excuse to post a pic...

As promised, as couple of photos.

I learned a lot about mounting these tires when a friend offered assistance. Special thanks to: "Village Idiot". All around good guy and fellow Pelican in Hawaii. "Thanks Tommy"

Jon,

Beautiful car. Maybe it's the lighting but what silver is your car? I covet those wheels by the way.

Aloha,

Mike

Hi Mike,
I don't know what the original color was called. I bought the car after it was t-boned on the driver's side. Totaled. A good friend helped me repair it, and it now serves as my experimental platform. Thanks for the kind words. I certainly can't take credit for the appearance. Body-work is a skill far beyond my level. My hat's off to all those that know how to do it, and make it look easy. It's not.

Glad to help Jon!

Your car looks great. Makes me jealous. Also makes me want a set of 17's for myself

BTW, I got my muffler on and it fits nice. Also have some nice brakes in transit

I 'll stay with the 225, the 235 would get better tire choice but oh well. surflvr..the car looks great!!!!!
