seat cloth

An endless source of frustration for earlier 911 owners appears to be the wear and tear of interior seats. In my 911, the seat part only(not the backrest) cloth inserts are worn and need to be replaced. Is it possible to replace just the seat part yourself, i.e., pull the seat and remove the covering-cut out the cloth and replace it with my friends industrial sewing machine(used for making sails).
The quandry is i can not find the orginal wacky plaid cloth anywhere so i would have to put a solid color in.
Does this ruin the value of the car since it is all orginal and in great shape?
I am not a fan of seat covers-just cant find good ones and i dont like the look.
Thanks!

Is this the type of cloth you are looking for? I remember someone posted a source, I think it was in England? Maybe someone can identify a source in the US?

The source in England is a place called Southbound, but they are notoriously difficult to get ahold of. The name of that pattern is called "Pascha". A friend of mine in the PCA tracked down a guy in Seattle that sells Pascha fabric in a variety of colors. The price is $175 a yard. I can give you the guy's e-mail if you send me a personal e-mail.

Since there is such interest, I'll post the guy's e-mail on the board - however, it will have to wait till later this afternoon when I get home, since that is where I have the e-mail address.

As for how to install it, I'm sure it's possible to remove the present material and stitch in the new stuff without affecting the side leather bolsters. I'm no seamstress, but I think it might be somewhat difficult to do and best left to a professional.

P.S. If you're looking for the blue/black Pascha fabric (like I have in my car), they don't make it anymore. However, they do still have a blue/dark gray fabric that is very close.

Thanks, Steve;

I look forward to hearing from you. My cloth is the exact same in the picture-brown/beige. I have an 1980911SC Euro which is cashmere biege in paint-its quite a combination. I love it though-it is my first porsche and it is in super shape.
Thanks for your help!

Grady,

The cloth material color on my seats is biege with green checks. Paint is casablanca biege. My cloth is is good shape, it's the vinyl that has given out along the stitched seam.

Thanks, John.

I will look at mine more closely to match it(in storage for the winter). It is still in great shape. Funny story, i was trying a new mechanic for something or another. When i picked up my car, there was a fresh rip in the seat. I asked him about it(in my calmest voice-this is, after all, my baby) and he flat out denied his involvement in the rip. He turned to walk away and before i raised my arm in a not so sneaky attack, i noticed an enoromous SCREWdriver jutting out of his back pocket. I then asked him if he drove my car with the screwdriver in his pocket and he, of course, pleaded the fifth in a guilt torn manner. Needless to say, i never went back and the repair had to be re-done by someone else.
Lessons on doing it yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is possible to replace just the center panel. I am the middle of making new seats myself. Check out my thread ("new leather seats") I have pics of all of the insides as well as patterns (for a '77- don't know how much the seats have changed) I can send you any shots you might need of the inside so you know what you are getting into, as well as tips. I installed one new set last night and it went quite well.

Try http://sitzklinik.de/bezuege.html in Germany for the Pascha fabric. They show the white/black version, but they might have other colors, as well.
