2.7 vs. SC Suspension/Brakes

Are the SC ('78-'83) corners beefier than the equivalent '74-'77 parts? There's an '82 SC Targa quivering with fear in the garage and a '74 hotrod rubbing its tires in gleeful anticipation of your answers.
Thanks!

No, not structurally, but component-wise. Are the springs/struts/rotors/calipers heavier-duty parts on the SCs when compared to the '74-'77 models?

Basically all the above component's the same.

A `74 911 with a 2.7S and OEM "header" type exhaust, not to mention no a/c and other weight adding 911SC upgrades make the `74 911 formidable competition for a 3.0 SC.

Not all middies had rear sway bars; many middies even lack the mounting points for rear sways, so the SC trailing ams and sway bars might be an upgrade here.

IIRC, the SC brakes/calipers are larger/heavier than mid-year ones, but add weight without necessarily increase braking power in the lighter middies.

The (now long term) plan for my '76 is SC trailing arms, uprated torsion bars, SC or Carrera F & R swaybars, Bilstein struts & shocks, and perhaps some Elephant Racing Polybronzes. Ahhh, maybe one day when I win the lottery...

Early mid-years had M-calipers in the front (the smaller ones) and later ones (late '75 - '77 IIRC) had A-calipers in the front like the SCs. SCs had larger rear torsion bars also. '74-'77 cars had 23mm rear torsion bars and SCs had 24.1mm.

'74|'83
main springs 19/23mm|19/24mm
roll bar 16/none unless you have optional Carrera 20/18mm|20/18mm

brakes same unless you have '74 M/M. '83 certainly has A/M

both are likely to have Boge shocks

I've seen midyears with Al S calipers - dunno if added or what - on a 75 S.

best to look at the individual car you want or have

If you decide to swap brakes, you'll likely have to swap struts as many of the mid-years had struts with 3" caliper spacing.

Yes, some of the '75s would have has S calipers but they were increasingly rare, the '75 S had M/M as standard, only the Carreras and 930s came w/ S/M in '75, for '76 the Carreras had A/M and only the 930s had S/M

Thanks for the help, guys!
She stops fine now, but I'm anticipating adding more power via the turbo route. Is it worthwhile to change out the front struts just for the S calipers?
