Hello
Porsche tranys are pretty tough and as long you donīt have to sticky rubber you canīt reach the "breakpoint". But on the long run the tranys get stressed and the bearings wander away and the contactsurface fom the gears goes more to the weak point. Those tranys also will sweat much oil and you know its over in the next time. Porsche tranys donīt like to rattle. Grüsse |

I'm think of swapping the engine in my 72 MGB into my 911. What do you guys think? What emblem should go on the engine lid? Will I be able to pick up as many girls?

Just an update,
Keith is rebuilding his V8 motor so that it can turn higher RPMs. He is also improving the cooling system and valve train. I am not sure what to do to my car other than super-charging it so that I can stay up with that kind of HP. The true test will be in Oct where we will be in the same run group at Kershaw SC (CMP) |

My brother put a 289 in a '65 MGB, toploader transmission, appropriate rear axle.
Was this sacrilege? He says he drops the Corvettes at about 120. |

Yeah, I seem to remember a guy with a SBC in a MG when I was a kid. A mechanic friend of mine was telling me about his VW beetle with a 454 and 915 transaxle the other day. A real giant killer. Nothing you would want to drive to church on Sunday though.

I have been considering putting my wifes minivan engine in my 911. Does anyone know where I can get a "Porschavan" badge for the front?

Finadict, what valve train are you using?
"The sbc produces max torque at 6k (360 ft/lb) 420 hp at 7k. short stroke big bore, and long duration cam seems to work." I am guessing solid lifters for that kind of RPM? Also how agressive is the cam? Also single plane or dual plane intake? I can respect a SBC that can tag 7K redline ![]() ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

Pillow,
Most of what I remember about the cam specs is 3 years removed, the cam looks alot like the old Duntov 30,30 grind with a little more duration and split overlap yes it does lope. The intake is a Weiland Stealth, this is lower profile manifold that allows the use of the stock engine cover. Roller rockers with performance anti pump hyd. lifters. the cam determines the power range more than anything else. All the rotating mass was balanced to .1 gram. The engines been living for more than 2 yrs, it sees 7k all the time. If you look at circle track cars the SBC's live at 8K + ...pat ------------------ pat --------------- 86 930 76 914 5.0 |
