Reputation of Black Forest Racing (John Forbes) Needed

I'm looking to have John put together a 2.4 liter type IV 914 engine (I know this a 911 forum but he also does alot of 911 engines - from what I gather). The story's kind of long and potentially boring but, in a nutshell, I've never met him and he's about 3k miles away so I was hoping to get some input from those who have first hand experience.

Thanks-

Black Forest in San Diego has a great reputation. I take it there is another Black Forest?

Sorry, potentially zero help, here. Maybe you can share more details to avoid any confusion?

Used to be Florida. Now they're in either N or S Carolina.

Why go out of state when you have some great Porsche engine rebuilders right there in CA?

He's in NC. Just outside of Charlotte. I've never had any major work done by him, but he did do a valve adjustment for me and worked out some CIS issues I was having. He was great to work with, I'll tell you that much. He also has a great reputation here locally. Many PCA folks go to him.

He has a new shop, and I've heard his engine room is like an operating room (clean).

If you are serious about a type IV, then check out Jake Raby at Air Cooled Technology.

Is this an attempt at humor?

Not an attempt.

It is, in fact, genuine humor.

Forgot the smiley, tho.

Like I said in the original post, it's a long and potentially boring story of why I'm looking to use John Forbes. That said, it works out to my benefit to have John put it together.

I've had Tom out to my house seven times. I'm gonna pass.

Seems like you are more or less set on Black Forest Racing, but given your location, I will say that Bob Grigsby at RMG in Sunnyvale would also be an excellent choice. I have had a bit of work done by him on a 993 motor and he and his crew are superb IMHO

Rob King @ S Car Go Racing in San Rafael

Rob is a brilliant Porsche guy and pretty cool too . . . honest is all that I have heard about him and experienced in my dealings with him.

John rebuilt my motor in January this year and I highly recommend him. He was in south Charlotte for a year but now is at Black Forest Racing in Lincolnton, NC. His shop is clean enough to eat off the floor, (a bit cleaner than the surgery room in my office!) If you need any specific info feel free to PM/Email me.

John has an excellent reputation. He's very friendly and is a 914 fanatic. Due to his popularity, though, getting on his calendar can be a bit of a challenge.

He's worked on my 911 and 914 and I've been happy with his work.

You can find out more about him on his web site.
