cylinder base gaskets question

doe's anyone know why i received paper cylinder base gaskets in a engine set along with a copper set also? do these have a specific purpose?

The only reason I can think of if they are the same thickness is that you use the paper ones to set the deck height then switch to the copper ones for final assembly. This however is just a wild guess and has no basis in fact what-so-ever.

these are thick about 1.4mm give or take. made from that green gasket material.

Many gasket sets are "master" sets and have parts for more than one application. You need to find out what your engine is supposed to have. Post in the engine build forum or wait for someone who has done your specific engine. BTW, you have 2 cars. Which motor are you working on? That will help get the right answer.

How thick is the paper? I would think that a paper gasket under the cylinder could crush and could cause a problem with the alignment of the cylinders at the head and to the cam tower, these have to be perfect or the cam tower will warp and the cam will bind.

the gasket is as thick as the valve cover gasket and made from ans is coated with green paper with black ink on it. will post photo.
