I am thinking I've read in "Excellence" magazine a couple of years ago, that McQueen bought a 1969 slate gray 911S before filming the movie "Le Mans", but it was not the car in the movie. The "Le Mans" slate gray 911S was delivered to him in France and was later shipped to the U.S. Both cars were purchased through his production company SOLAR. He ended up selling the one not in "Le Mans" and keeping the "Le Mans" car. I think maybe his kid Chad McQueen was interviewed for the article as well. I think this is right, but I do not want to go through the heap of magazines at my feet to prove it.

The '69 is still owned by Chad, the '70 S (Le Mans car) was sold via RM, and these are the papers of the RM car.

That address looks like it was for a production office attached to the CBS Radford Studio - in 1970 CBS was renting out studio lot space to independent production companies...

No replay, answers?

The owners manual , maintenance book, and every other original document went with the car, and RM sent them to the new owner in Germany, the only way to get the real documents is from the owner of the car, which I doubt happened

Cool find.
I would like to know the original owner of my '74. I have a folder approaching 2" thick but there is a hole in the records back in the 70's and you can't see who it was. |
