wheel lock refuses to unlock
Hi guys,
I have the original key for my original Fuchs wheel locks on an 88 Carrera and I have removed 3 of the locknuts without a problem. However, one of the rears will just not undo! I have searched the forum and there are heaps of threads with people who have lost their key and ways to remove the lock which usually requires some kind of force which will break the lock. Given I have my key just wondered if there is a trick to getting off a lock that seems to be malfunctioning. The factory drivers manual says the lock should only turn +/- 30deg. However, this culprit just keeps turning the whole way around with the key in it and will not dis-engage. Very frustrating as I'm on a tight deadline to clean this baby up..... Does someone have an easy fix please? If you don't want to disclose a simple way to get this off (preferably without wrecking the lock) please pm me. thanks

There are a lot of different types of wheel locks. Describe the problem better and/or post a pic.
If they use a real live "key" like for a door or an ignition, those can be freed up with a massive jolt of PB Blaster. Once they are off, take them to the closest large body of water and give them the float test, make sure you aim for the four corners of the planet...... Then buy a gun if you don't have one already and and simply shoot the bastard who attempts to put another set of locks on your wheels..... Have a G"day....

How do you tighten what appears to be a cylindrical lug nut?
Regardless, I'd drive it to a locksmith for advice. Perhaps drill out the key mechanism. I'd think a good locksmith could get into it pretty cheap and pretty easy. |

It's a cap that fits over a special lug nut - The top has a hole in it.

Try spraying a little light oil in the keyway, run the key in and out a few times it may free the internal wafers.

![]() When all else fails, use a body shop slide hammer device w a screw to thread into the key opening. One quick yank and its off. Then throw the damned things away. They are useless. Its too much trouble for a thief to jack a car up just to steal the wheels. They just steal the whole car. Len

hold the body, turn key counterclockwise, grab body with pliers and wiggle off.

Even WD-40, or any penetrating oil would be o.k. Then do what JW says: Hold the lock-body, turn the key ccw and wiggle.

I used John Walker's method on mine. Then promptly tossed the wheel locks in the garbage.

If you don't have a slide hammer I have used a hole saw (remove the centering drill bit) with excellent results.

those are the easiest to remove among the usual locks. careful use of an airhammer and chisel bit breaks off the outer lip, then the rest of the lock innards come out.

Worst case scenario, trash the lock to get it off. With all these folks "throw(ing) in the trash", surely someone will give or sell you a new set cheap. In the meantime, just replace with a standard nut.

I used a dremel tool and cut around the end with a cut off disk. A bit slower but safe as far as damaging my fuchs. Took about a half hour. Once the outside rim around the lock off,
It can all be pulled apart with pliers. |
